Trip Description

Pyay (formerly known as Prome) lies on a sharp bend in the Ayeyarwady River. It can be reached by road (an five-hour drive north of Yangon) or an overnight riverboat trip south of Bagan. Nearby one can observe the ruins of the ancient Pyu capital of Thayekhittaya. Pyay serves as an important transshipment point for cargo moving between Upper and Lower Myanmar along the Ayeyarwady River. Pyay has a famous pagoda named Shwesandaw. One of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage spots in Myanmar, the pagoda is perched on top of the hill in the centre of the town.

Itinerary

Day 1 Yangon - Pyay

After breakast, proceed by coach to Pyay 180 miles ( 5hrs drive ) north-west of Yangon. Visit en route Shwemyethman Pagoda ( Buddha with the golden spectacles ) and Shwenatt Taung Pagoda. Sightseeing tour of Pyay includes visits to Sri Ksetra, the ancient Pyu capital in the nearby locations. Tour continues to Shwesandaw Pagoda, the main point in the heart of the town. Lunch and dinner at outside local restaurants. Overnight in Pyay.

Day 2 Pyay - Yangon

After morning sightseeing tour of Pyay and environs, proceed to 'Akauktaung' and return by coach to Yangon. Upon arrival in Yangon, transfer to Hotel (or) airport. End of our service.
