Day Excursion To Syriam
Thanlyin is situated at the confluence of the Yangon and Bago Rivers; to be exact, on the southern bank of the Bago River. To the south of Thanlyin is a ridge named Utaringa Kon in history but locally known as Shin Mwe Kon. It is on this ridge that Kyaik Khauk Pagoda stands.
The colonial town of Thanlyin (Syriam) was built by the British for it’s port and petroleum refinery plant. It is also a sub-urban town, a few miles away from Yangon, across 1.5 mile long bridge.

Program Detail :
Breakfast at hotel, then drive to Thanlyin, (45 mins), formerly called Syriam, was an important trading centre in the 17th century under the Portuguese adventurer De Brito. It is an interesting excursion across the river to Thanlyin. A bus ride out of town will take you to the large, golden Kyaikkhauk Pagoda rising on a hillock to the right of the road. Another visiting site is Ye Le Paya which means “the pagoda at the centre of the river” at Kyauktan. It is appropriately named since the complex is perched on a tiny island in the middle of the river. Then, drive back to Yangon. End of services.
